Established as a summer colony of Washington scientists, Scientists Cliffs, overlooking Chesapeake Bay, developed as iconic, 600 square foot, log cabins, many of which were originally constructed of solid chestnut logs. Clad in a combination of log slab and vertical board-and-batten siding, this new residence demonstrates that current living patterns and the desire for significantly larger houses can be accommodated within architectural forms that are compatible in scale, proportion, and materials that appropriately reinforce the original architectural forms and history of Scientists Cliffs.
