Overlooking San Domingo Creek, near Saint Michaels, Maryland, this new house is an architectural descendant of the great eighteenth century tidewater Maryland plantation houses. With authentic, but evolved classic detailing and materials, the house is both formal and relaxed. Choreographed with a welcoming arrival court, the broad southerly water views are revealed only upon entry into the grand “River Room” inspired by a rare American building type, the Orangerie. With twin fireplaces at each end of the space, a wall of ten foot tall triple-hung windows frame the views and give access to the waterfront terrace.
