One of Kent County’s finest examples of early Maryland domestic architecture, Hinchingham is located on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay near Tolchester. This well-preserved 1776 brick mansion is a two and a half story brick main block with a one and a half story brick wing to the north. Updates and general renovations included integration of modern mechanical systems, the addition of a new kitchen and mudroom with an inlaid brick floor, and the addition of a family room to the basement by increasing the depth by three feet, with new buttressing walls. Although not under the purview of Maryland Historic Trust, all work was performed in strict accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
